12 spots are taken, one remaining.

Guards: MAL, Zackery, Hand, Kelley
Wings: Langford, Aligbe, Madsen, McGlockton
Bigs: Post, Bickerstaff, Mighty, Penha

I'm skeptical that scholarship #13 actually gets used. Makai and possibly CJ Penha are the only ones leaving after this year, so it hurts the 2023 class to take a flyer on a last-minute 2022 guy. There's always the transfer portal for a one-year flyer - I wouldn't mind another big, but at this point it won't be an impact player.

Final 5 for MA PF TJ Power - BC, Duke, UNC, UVA, Iowa

Grant should get a lifetime contract if he wins this recruiting battle.

In true BC basketball fashion, he’ll go to Iowa.

I think Power's doing Grant a solid including BC in his Top 5. Note what differs in how he discusses BC vs. the others:

Duke: "(Scheyer) The style of play, they play really fast and play aggressive which is kind of where my game is going. Then obviously the brand of Duke basketball is always hard to pass up when making these decisions."

North Carolina: "I just like the way that program is changing a little bit with his approach and having a lot of versatile bigs who can really shoot and stretch the floor, I think that would really work for me."

Virginia: "The player development there is the most impressive thing. They are always in contention and they are always winning...being able to develop under him for a few years would be great for getting me ready to play professionally."

Iowa: "The style of play, a lot of shooters with confidence who move the ball and get up and down the floor so that is a good spot."

Now compare with the full BC quote:

"Obviously Coach Grant is a second year coach. From my talks with him I think I can tell the energy that he has for the program and the school has the back of that program. New facilities and kind of re-energizing that whole college basketball program and being able to play close to home is a unique opportunity that I think I will have to look at. They have some young guys there that I would like to play with. I think it could be pretty cool."

No mention of Scheyer entering his first year, or Davis for that matter entering his second (albeit after a remarkable first year). Much more about what could be. He could play pickup with the BC guys some weekend. To me he seems wowed with the two late entrants, Duke and UNC.

Duke. Why play for an inexperienced second year coach? Makes sense to me.

When he enters the transfer portal after his first season at Duke I think he will fit in well at UMass. :ace

A few predictions of 4* Jayden Hastings '23 to BC. Top 125 recruit.

6'9 225 lb PF with Clemson, UF, Miami, GT, USC, etc. offer list.

Would pair nicely with Payne in '23.

Impressive pickup by the staff. Will they bring in another recruit or two or are there no spots left for the recruiting class?

We only have 12 scholarships currently in use this year (13 available):

Sr./Grad: MAL, Bickerstaff, Penha, Post (4)
--
Junior: Langford, Madsen (2)
Soph.: Zackery, McGlockton (2)
Frosh.: Aligbe, Hand, Kelley, Mighty (4)
--
2023: Payne, Hastings (2)
--
Bickerstaff and Post will get another year because of the COVID season. No idea what Penha's status is with NAIA. If they all return (1) we have no more scholarships and (B) this team will have crazy experience/continuity. I'd expect 1 more to fill out the class.

Btw, isn't it SO goddamn refreshing that we have a coach who knows how to build a roster. F--- Donahue and his idiotic roster construction. Legitimately set us back a decade...

Let’s see how Easy E does this year. He has over-performed in every way since arriving on campus. But, as we’ve seen Hafley stall… Grant needs a to avoid missteps as there is no margin for error at BC. But, for the first time in a while, I don’t actively hate the program.

Not sure if we have room , but BC should try to get in on '23 Los Angeles SG Brady Dunlap (Harvard Westlake). He has them #1 in SO Cal this year, and just de-committed from Notre Dame after Brey retired. HW is a highly academic school, this kid has been well coached for years (I know his AAU coaches, they're excellent), and he was obviously willing to go far from home to a catholic university. He's been an under the radar kid for years, but I expect that the schools that previously offered like Illinois and Colorado are going to come after him hard.

No sign that BC has ever even contacted him. Dad is a college assistant. Currently Cal State Northridge, but has had a stop at Loyola Chicago.

45% from 3 last year. Local kid chose BC over Illinois and Illinois-Chicago.

Tore his ACL a few months ago so re-classified to '24.

Luka Toews Commits to Boston College

https://newenglandrecruitingreport.com/in-the-news/luka-toews-commits-to-boston-college

The last day of the July live period concluded with one of New England’s top ranked prospects, Luka Toews of the Newman School and Middlesex Magic announcing that he will be committing to Boston College to continue his basketball career.

Toews originates from Japan where he spent the majority of his childhood before moving to the states for his sophomore year of high school. He spent one year at Northfield Mount Hermon in what would end up being the last season coaching for longtime head coach John Carroll.

I'm a little skeptical at this '24 class, but they announced Petronio and Toews signed today.

I'll give Grant the benefit of the doubt here as the talent coming in has improved significantly.

Roster is already guard heavy and after this year bigs will be real real thin. The transfer portal gives incentive to just recruit and sign the best players they can and fill roster holes later, so it doesn’t matter much
