Nostalgia Week: The 74 BC Re-Tractable Dome That Never Was

Postby BCEagle74 on Fri Jan 15, 2010 9:17 am

Since you kids are getting bored and nostalgic, here is something to ponder when you feel us old senile guys could never make it at the present Boston College with their limited extracurricular activities --(Working for Jimmy Hoffa's Teamsters**, or God Forbid!! Commuters!) --and SAT scores and grades, go read the future plans of the magnificient Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas printed in the FWST not just today but in prior months after the openings.

What I posted below 4-5 years ago, is now exploding into reality.

This exact shortened post below has been on my ESPN web site for at least 5 years.

Like I keep telling you, these Jesuits are flush with hundreds of millions --($1.65B at last check)---and contrary to old forklore, they can do what they want with most of that cash load including bonds and using or asking for state and federal joint venture participation.

HERE WAS THE 74 VISION FROM CIRCA 2003- 2004:
____________________________________________

Now updated from 5 years ago with present construction costs!

I hope to see BC build a huge re-tractable $1.2B dome on the St. John's land seating 85K and use it as the centerpiece for a new vision for the Eagles. BC is the greatest University in the Galaxy, but has no VISION!

Here is my Vision:

1--Use the huge endowment up to $1.2B and build a retractable dome, seating maybe 75K-85K, with 4 tiered huge luxury boxes, with a hinged roofed end for a baseball center field and diamond.

Retractable for clear 10-20 degree days for a nice Miami or FSU November visit. BC controls the field conditions. Maybe get some matching funds from state and city for high school championship usage.

2--Naming rights, maybe Microsoft Vista Dome, Fidelity Dome, Gooigloo $20M a year.

3--Surrounded by 6 tall high rise two person or single occupancy dorms with cool walkways to dining areas, restaurants, and merchants, a big new double 20 lane natatorium, Olympic and other sport training centers, rehabilitation centers, and maybe a new state-of-the art Sports Medicine and Trainer school!

4--Inside the dome: Luxury high tech corporation and at least 150 state-of-art teaching classroom and meeting centers and a media center palace.

5-Conventions
6-Concerts and Boxing Matches.
7-Basketball games versus Duke and UNC
8-NCAA Final Fours
9-Hockey Final Frozen Fours
10-BC graduation events
11-Speakers and big groupings and Conventions
12--Democratic and Republican National Conventions
13--Bowl Games and BCS Rotation Bowl games and Non Conference Games
14--ACC Championships
15-ADD Men's Lacrosse!
16--NCAA Track Championships.
17--NCAA Lacrosse Chamiponships.
18 --Red Sox Yankee 3 game exhibition in dome before season starts.
19--Red Sox -BC exhibitions.
20--Recreation area.
21--College mixers.

22--Rental usage for BU, Harvard, and surrounding colleges. Harvard wants a new facilty, and they have $24.6 BILLION!
Let them rent it, put in retractable grass pod fields like Arizona with a big H!

23--Future Papal Mass.
24--Olympic Training Centers.
25--Office space rentals for BC's PR, and Administration and others!
26--Summer hotel space.
27--Huge new parking structure.
28--Tailgating and plush dining area.
29--Day care centers for BC students with kids.
30--Day office rental suites for self-employed.
31--Re-training center for BC graduates and out placement services.
32—A huge deep cavern storage are and cellar for 74 to live like the guys 20 floors below Grand Central Station for the last 30 years.
33-World Cup Scocer.

34--- NBA ALL STAR GAMES AND LAKER CELTIC GAMES!!
34--Pig Riding..they ride wild boars in Arkansas and Texas.
35--Rodeos -- Just like the Stockyards North.
36--Monster Trucks.
37--Evasngelism Crusades...Look at the new C21 magazine and the BC professor on Evangelism.
38--Olympoic swimming trials!

The list keeps growing, but the ground breaking and planning never start.

BC needs the 74 Vision, or we will eventually be Puscadoria Nerdville.

Oops! I almost forgot!

Optional: National Queerbitch Championships for the new nerds with brooms. (Lord save us!)

To do it right, you would need a lot more than you think.

If you make it a bond financed, get state and federal help from Kerry and Brown, and a entire planned contained BC plush world class mini-city surrounding the dome with high rise dorms service buildings with arched gated walkways, trolley stops, shopping plazas, food courts.

The luxury boxes in the dome alone like the Boss Hogg bowl could be used for at least 150 classrooms, study halls, and meeting places.

The food court and vendors for the stadium can have open access into the comb food court.

This is a engineering marvel and architects dream signature award winning project.

Thank God I got a PHD in Enghineering at BC! Whew!

74, I love your grandiose plans for the Retractable but we need to focus on what we can actually get done given the rules of Newton, Brighton etc. I'm thinking of a 50k Carrier Dome type facility at a substantially lower cost and hopefully more tolerable to the bordering neighborhoods. What's the best way to start it going? Has this issue really evr been raised with Leahy or GDF? Should we start a grassroots effort. Maybe I'm just energized from the Brown win.

Re-read the whole thread 81.

Why would we want a dull, drab, useless painted Carrier Dome warehouse for 3-4 games in possible cold November weather?

That is not a vision, that is euthansia.

We have a boring 50K stadium that we tell Newton seats 45K now?

Build the 74 Genius Master Vision.

If you build it, the World will come, including World Cup Soccer.

I agree with you but the Newton nazi's will never allow the 74 Palace. Better to water it down at first, add later. James Baker from Texas way always said--get a half loaf now and the other half later. That has to be the strategy here. BOstonians are traditionalists. Look how long it took to get Fenway renovated and the Garden replaced. One step at a time. Seriously, has the issue of a retractable been raised at the Leahy/GDF level?

St. John's land is in Brighton right?

The mayor of Newton is a BC graduate now too, if that matters.

If you build the Dome, the rest will fall into place around that huge tract of primo land.

Yes, Chuck they will come, and they will come by the millions and pay their money freely and gladly and have the best times they ever had in their lives.

BC revenues will be the highest in the land and dwarf the Neenan Light the World donations, since you get entertainment, happiness and beaming pride in BC.

Neenan is a lost carnival shill begging for money to sit in some mutual fund and collect interest.

74 Vision is building you a Sports and Life Vatican masterpiece center jewel or the envy of the all other Universities and cities for the greatest University in the Galaxy!

A shining 10,000,000 watt cross topping shining in the night lights of Boston bringing millions for all events will Light the World in ways the small thinkers and admins that have semi-polluted BC could never imagine.

Light the Dome.

Huge stories in DFW about the Hogg Bowl Palace in Arlington being a huge economic engine for taxes and revenue and the many events I listed may actually come to pass.

I posted that Re-tractable dome 5+ years ago and now the price has gone up $400M and those Jesuit Humps are still drinking single malt 40 year old scotch and trying to hump fagolas.

Just think of the sales, hotel, restaurant taxes and spending and you know the Massachusetts State and Boston would see the future revenue streams and float some bonds/funds to help BC, but BC has to be smart enough to maintain the big revenue from events, parking and the surrounding food courts and dominate the control and throw them some state and HS championships and a few other bones.

The best piece of land in America and BC has the vision of a blind man in a well.

Fucking cheap stupid idiots run my alma mater.

GIMMEE AN ALUM with some balls and some juice to make BC the Greatest University in the Galaxy...

108,713 and the Boss Hogg Palace is like no other venue in the world.

Today is 2010.

I posted that retractable dome Vision 2003-2004, or way before Jerry World and now BC coulda been the shining light of the world instead we have fagola Jesuits begging for dollars that they will never spend--- to fill some mysterious mutual fund---- and they can't even spend what they got now??

My BC..lost is the Neenan headlights of greed, stupidity, ignorance and a vision of pathetic fagolas,

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Jim Boeheim didn't want to talk about rankings. He just wanted to briefly bask in a scintillating victory by his Syracuse Orange and then move on.

Rick Jackson scored 19 points and Arinze Onuaku had 17 as the two big men dominated inside, helping the No. 4 Orange rout Villanova (No. 8 ESPN/USA Today, No. 7 AP)95-77 on Saturday night before an NCAA on-campus record crowd of 34,616.

This old warehouse is still packing them in and was built for peanuts.

Kansas City --in the middle of no where next to who gives a fuck!

This city has held more NCAA Final Fours and has a beautiful new Arena for basketball --Big 12 Championship-- and uses the old 1936 arena which is better than Conte for the womens Big 12 in the same week on the smae street closed down and saves a ton on pep and regular bands and cheerleading and all else.

KC is a lovely street fair and the economy is booming!

Boston College -- last time I checked, BC was near the ocean, had a international airport..but only where the Celtics Play a new hoops arena--and maybe threw some tea into the Rio Grande in 1776, something baout a revolution??

Just think...a Final Four comes to BC in 2018 after the 74 dome is built and the ACC wants its teams to get accustomed to the venue since shooting in a dome has its own depth perceptions to get used to and has its Mens Tournament up there and the women's at Conte --smae as the Big 12 since the attendance is lower----and the whole BC lower campus is a gigantic festival of kids, parents 24 teams, and hotel spaces are jammed to the rafters and the trolleys are coming in and out like NYC GCS!

The BC Plaza Dome food court restaurants and huge plaza seating is Carnivale time and the cash registers are Lighting the Neenan Jesuit cofferes world and the 4 surrounding high rise dorms are jumping with music and at 4AM.....

SZ14 goes to the roof of the dome and plays Taps and the For Boston and we drink a toast to Alma Mater.

What the fuck is goning in up there?

Start some world class designing architectural geniuses--using the Boss Hogg Bowl as a starter---and build my Vision and concept and bulldoze the city of Boston and get some state and federal funds and ask Harvard and others for some rental income and stat making the dirt fly!

If BC builds it themselves--they get the 100% revenue!

This dome and buildings would be the future economic engine for BC and we make our own donations.

Ever to stay mediocre.

If not for Jerry York, BC would be so inept and a total disgrace.

DISGUSTIAD!

THIS IS WHY NY AND NJ HAVE ALWAYS BEEN LIBERAL ASSHOLES.

FLIP A COIN? FLIP YOUR ROOF MORONS!!!

You spend $1.6B on a new home and you do not Jerry Jones think and put in a retractable roof.

Hey is it ever rainy or cold up there or is it Miami where they want a roof for baseball since even at 85 degress it rains every afternoon---and maybe when the renovate the old stadium????

NY-NJ PUDDINHEADS!

50 degrees in February for a Super Bowl....NEVERGONNAGETIT!

$220M in North texas Economy boost with XLV in Arlington....NEVERGONNAGETIT!

From Day 1, I said the Tisschie Papper Whining Boys and the Jets were functional morons.

4 Super Bowls in rotation in 17 years goves you a blllion back in loacl revenue?

NEVERGONNAGETIT...just like Obamination!

Jets, Giants to flip coin for right to host first game in $1.6B stadium Story Highlights
The Jets and Giants have expressed a desire to host the new stadium's debut
The commissioner determines the schedule, possibly rendering the coin flip moot
The NFL schedule traditionally becomes public on the second Tuesday of April

NEW YORK (AP) -- It's a toss up whether the Jets or Giants will open the new Meadowlands Stadium.

The Jets announced on their Web site Saturday night that they will flip a coin with the Giants to determine which team will host the first regular-season game at their new 82,500-seat, $1.6 billion stadium this season.

Both teams have expressed to the NFL their desire to play the opening game there. The Jets said the league will make heads or tails of it by tossing a coin in the near future.

"We look forward to the coin toss," Jets spokesman Bruce Speight said.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello would not confirm a flip would occur, saying simply that commissioner Roger Goodell determines the schedule.

"We have no announcements to make about the schedule at this point," Aiello added.

This year's regular-season schedule will be announced next month. The teams do not play each other in the regular season this year, eliminating the possibility of both opening the stadium in Week 1.

The Jets have shared a stadium with the Giants since they moved from Shea Stadium for the 1984 season. The new Meadowlands Stadium is the first constructed to serve as the home of two NFL teams, and holds the distinction of being the largest privately financed stadium in U.S. history.

The teams are also teaming up to try to bring the 2014 Super Bowl to the Meadowlands. Miami and Tampa also plan to present bids for the game. League owners will award the game at their annual meeting in May.

If the new stadium wins out, it would set the stage for the first cold weather Super Bowl. The NFL gave the Giants and Jets the right to bid on the Super Bowl game in December despite the traditional requirement that host regions have a minimum temperature of 50 degrees or stadiums with domes or retractable roofs.

The new stadium does not have a retractable roof.

Texas Tech agrees to '12 game vs. ALABAMA!

Texas Tech is taking Tommy Tuberville back to his roots, having reportedly reached a verbal agreement to open the 2012 season against defending national champion Alabama at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

"We've agreed to do it," Texas Tech athletic director Gerald Myers told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal in Wednesday's editions. "I think Alabama's agreed to do it. But, we haven't gotten down to signing a contract or anything like that."

Myers said both coaches -- Tuberville and Alabama's Nick Saban -- are "on board" with the decision to play the game.

The Tuscaloosa News, citing anonymous sources in the Alabama athletic department, reported that the Crimson Tide have not agreed to the matchup.

"That's not something we've agreed to," Saban told ESPN's Chris Low. "We have a lot of options for 2012. We're in the process of weighing them. That's one of them."

Tech hired Tuberville in January after firing Mike Leach amid controversy after 10 seasons. Tuberville was Auburn's head coach from 1999 to 2008 before stepping down with an 85-40 record, including a 7-3 mark against the Crimson Tide.

Under Mike Leach, the Red Raiders were often criticized for scheduling weak nonconference games. Tech will open the 2010 season at home against much-improved SMU and will also face New Mexico, Weber State and Houston. The Red Raiders played Big 12 foe Baylor at Cowboys Stadium last season.

Alabama, the defending BCS national champion, has opened each of the past two seasons with a neutral-site game in Atlanta against an ACC opponent. The Crimson Tide will open the 2010 season with back-to-back home games this season against San Jose State and Penn State.

Let them rent it, put in retractable grass pod fields --or the new field turf like NYG-- like Arizona with a big H!

38--Olympic swimming trials!

The list keeps growing, but the ground breaking and planning never start.

BC needs the 74 Vision, or we will eventually be Puscadoria Nerdville.

Oops! I almost forgot!

Optional: National Queerbitch Championships for the new nerds with brooms. (Lord save us!)

** One of the greatest Americans that ever lived, James Riddle Hoffa!

It wasn't just a dome, it was a vision of BC domination of the University world in events, academics, business, community and sports!!

MAybe you two could find Cave Love with your new Chilean Mining Home Game!

You know the leap frog without the leaping in the dark ---and who can swallow the non-working flashlight in my pants?

Extra points when you boyfriend finds out that Tuesday night was your night as the Cave Butt Bandit a Catcher!

Needham parking lot. We'll have helicopter shuttles. On days where the roof is open people can parachute directly into their seats.

this is my point and has been from the beginning. all one needs to do is post an opponent position to 74 and they are a fagtagger and a homosexual.

That has never been true or I would not be 74?
i
posted two very basic and very real flaws in his logic. flaws that will not be overcome with a check anytime soon. yet, the response is more homosexual slurs and lack of coherent argument.

Flaws maybe...unsolvable...what about the parachute idea....hmmmm???

i wasn't mean, i didn't use any slurs or family insults, i just pointed out why it couldn't happen as 74 proposes and wouldn't happen for practical reasons

but, whatever. this is a message board that is going to suffer until people stop posting. it doesn't matter about what and where, all posting is now expected to stop.

yet i'm the pathetic one, right owl

You get the right trustees, some stimulus FED juice, Barney Fagola, float some new long term tax free bonds, some federall and state money for example --- 2 more T lines and stations into St. Johns and that is how build a retractable dome whether $900M or $1.5B an using state, federal and other capital sources and naming rights, besides the endowment.

That piece of land is the greatest on earth and being wasted!!!!
