Tall, skinny kid with 2 years of eligibility left. Hopefully, a better version of Danny Dalton.

My optimism is pretty low right now on BC football. We're better at blowing smoke and hype videos than anything else. Our 2022 hopes seem to be pinned on a non durable QB and the college equivalent of John Brown at WR. Our HC is smart, and a good guy, but he's more concerned with everyone liking him than winning football games. At least in 2017 we could look forward to the Fish Field House opening, and the fact that Daz wouldn't be here forever. This now feels like As Good as It Gets, and we're SO mediocre. :ace
Obviously I would love to be proved VERY wrong. Unless we start 5-0 for 2022, with good metrics on both sides of the ball, I'll remain skeptical.

Nice. Hope he brings in someone awesome. Should be one of the highest paid assistants we got. Maybe give a call to Marc Columbo to get his career going again after Joe Judge’s awfulness was first blamed on him before shifting to Garrett.

hard to argue moving for the same role in the nfl

easy move would be gunnell to WR & savon huggins full time role as RB coach

OL Coach is the only position (beyond DC and OC) where you aren't completely concerned about recruiting. Those three positions is where you prefer quality coaching over salesmanship. To that end, Applebaum's role needs to be filled by someone who knows what they are doing. Dailey's opening needs to be someone who is a lightsout recruiter.

From that angle, I know we did not hit NJ hard for the 2022 class after crushing it in years prior. That's probably going to be the norm. With Dailey gone and Schiano (having the best Candy Van in the northeast) and Golden Al going to the Golden Dome, New Jersey is going to be picked over more than usual. I applaud Hafley's efforts to make inroads in the South. That needs to continue. And, perhaps another hire from that region would solidify.

Good hire or nah?

Given his long history, he certainly knows how to coach the position. I doubt he is much of a recruiter, but that is the one position on the staff where recruiting takes a backseat to coaching. Googs has had a very strange run. He seems to be exceedingly well-liked but the guy who is the first to be blamed. Worked miracles with the Colts, but was hired to be part of McDaniels staff before McDaniels backed out. Reich kept him for 2 years but then wanted to bring in his own guy. Had nothing to work with the year he was fired by the Pats. Came in mid-season to take over for the Dolphins and Giants. But, has been vagabond for almost a decade. Overalll... he is exactly the type of coach I would want us to hire. I hope that the weirdness of his resume is more due to happenstance.

It certainly seems like Haf is seeking out Coach Coughlin recommendations. I welcome that if what that means is we are seeking accountability, discipline and execution on the offensive side of the football, and a heck of a lot more realism in the message that gets conveyed to players. For replacing Dailey, not sure what coach Coughlin has. But from where I sit we could do a lot worse than picking from Billy Gonzales, Adam Lechtenberg (RB, move RG to WR), and or Kevin Faulk (same, move RG to WR).

I love that Hafley keeps going outside the program to bring in new guys with new perspectives and different recruiting grounds. Having someone familiar with SEC and B12 country is huge. That said, something weird happened at the end of the 2020 season. Wyatt left UCF "abruptly" without another job. Just so happens that Heupel left UCF a month later, Mahlzahn was hired and brought Wyatt back. Strange.

andy backstrom is reporting savon gets FT role

hafley voiced frustration with the offense after the season, complete overhaul on that side of the ball

Best of luck to Rich. If he wasn't an alum many of us would have been much more critical of his recruiting. Hold overs are good when there is a new coach but it is always better when a coach gets exactly who he wants.

Probably just a mistake but Deon Jones is on the roster.
