I’ve been wondering how some BC football players have been entering the portal outside spring transfer window of April 15-30.

It turns out the window has 2 exceptions which I was not aware of until now:

1) head coaching change
2) student-athlete’s annual scholarship is not renewed (I.e. they are not asked back).

If either of those conditions occurs, then a player may enter at any time.

I’m glad football was able to get him a BC degree and a single six-figure paycheck.

That is certainly debatable. With the Yankees-like payroll, TAMU certainly underwhelmed last year.

Was it DeBerry who pulled the wool over Hafley's eyes with a performative locker room speech after the FSU blowout last year?

looks like this could be related:

https://247sports.com/college/boston-co ... 209236723/

Boston College has added their second transfer in the past week, as UCF quarterback Thomas Castellanos announced that he will be transferring to the Eagles. The Class of '22 recruit was a high three star out of high school and chose the Knights over offers from Akron, Coastal Carolina, Eastern Michigan, Florida Atlantic, Florida State, Kansas, Troy, UAB, and UCF. He is the second transfer from UCF to choose the Eagles, with graduate transfer wide receiver Ryan O'Keefe transferring to BC back in December.

A graduate from Ware County (GA), Castellanos played in six games as a freshman last season, throwing 9 for 16 for 75 yards, and ran the ball 14 times for 120 yards and a touchdown. But incumbent John Rhys Plumlee looked to hold on to the starting job this spring. Castellanos also visited Texas State, where his primary recruiter from UCF, GJ Kinne is now the head coach. But this past weekend, a visit to Chestnut Hill locked down the decision for the transfer.

The addition of Castellanos is the latest move that shakes up the BC quarterback room. Earlier this offseason, Daelen Menard entered the transfer portal before choosing Bowling Green. And on Saturday, redshirt freshman Peter Delaportas also entered the portal after not appearing in a game with BC. The Eagles also added in Hendrix (TX) true freshman Jacobe Robinson who enrolled this spring and appeared in the spring game.

The Eagles have added ten players in the transfer portal including defensive backs Khari Johnson (Arkansas), Victor Nelson Jr. (FIU), and Alex Washington (Harvard), running back Kye Robichaux (Western Kentucky), wide receiver Ryan O'Keefe (UCF), Logan Taylor (UVA) and defensive lineman George Rooks (Michigan), Kyle Hergel (Texas State) and Caleb Jones (NC A&T).

Per Matt Rhule... to purchase a good QB in the portal, it will cost you $2mm per year.

Rhule's just setting expectations for when he brings Matthew Sluka in, because Sluka ain't getting $2m with this many other QBs on the market.

"Purchase" Thats sounds like shit for college athletics. Just have teams sponsored by NFL franchises at this point.

College football’s main thing going for it is no that it’s it somewhat amateur. The second it becomes the minor leagues no one will give a shit like all the other minor leagues. You would think these geniuses would learn that as they push it further and further away from what it was intended to be.

Hansen: you say no one will care yet ratings are up, total audience is up, ticket revenue is up, and licensing is up. 1.4M people watched a shitty BC team vs Miami at noon Et on Black Friday. That shows audience demand is there.

Michigan Ohio St got better ratings than world series, final four and NBA finals.

It won't evaporate overnight. Millennials and older still enjoy major sporting events. But, as football participation is way down... as GenZ has generationally low sports affinity beyond TikTok highlights... as you remove 60% of the customer base (by banishing their teams to lower conferences without access)... as the school no longer has any relation to those playing for it... the sport and the product will die. Maybe not all at once... but certainly... and definitively. If it was possible, I would be shorting the hell out of college sports (and its decentralized management by failed jocks).
