I figured 3 wins this year with NM state and Army being the others and nothing today makes me want to add Ws and they'll have trouble winning any more games if Williams is out with lingering hamstring

I saw improvement in the second half, so I'm happy with that. I saw aggressiveness by the Defense, so I'm happy with that. I saw A LOT of conservative play-calling, with a slight hint of flexibility and creativity in the second half - I'm not happy about that. I saw stupid plays, penalties, etc - I'm not happy about that. Overall, BC needed to win today. They have historically struggled in their first games of the season, and today was no different. Under the circumstances (diminished talent, new coaches, new schemes), it was exactly what I expected. There will be a lot of deficiencies this season and I'm hoping they can pull out another 4 wins, but I'm not so sure they will. As long as I see improvement, effort, and an overall desire to win, the season should turn out OK.

How did Patchen look?

Did Gallick play the entire game?

Any news about Williams hamstring

Amidon, Rettig, williams and Wolford all had good numbers but Robertson gets the gameball for 4 turnovers

I was pleased with the way "Reddick" played, but I'm still wondering if Bobby Wolford ever played linebacker. :irr

My whole life I've witnessed BC's smart kids do stupid shit. Looks like that's going to continue. That player for Nova was so far behind the play and Vardaro feels he needs to dive at his knees? Freaking idiot.

FWIW:

The Vardaro block was not even a penalty last year.
I am not up to speed on the Mass HS rules history but it probably has never been a penalty in his entire career until today.

Prior to this season the NCAA rules said a player who is lined up within the tackle box or 7 yds of the center, can block below the waist at any location on the field as long as they are not blocking a defensive player who is already engage with another blocker. See this link for a video interpretation of the rule from the Patriot League in 2011.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHOcBnHCU_s

The 2013 Season brings a rules change on blocking below the waist (9-1-6) in the NCAA.
It now restricts that type of blocking to the tackle box only.

See this link below for more Details:

I'm not all that animated about this shit since it is basically the preaseason. Yes, if you lose, it matters. But whether you beat nova by 1 or 100, it don't make no nevermind.

That said, the play calling was pretty bad. I was hoping to see them just run up the gut all day until nova tapped out. But I really don't care what the style of play is as long as it generates results.

And if we lose to wake I'm going to stomp 1000 kittens.

The offensive playcalling is extremely frustrating (wait till you come to a game TW and can see all 11), but we saw the benefit of a semicompetent run game with Chase.

It's so refreshing to see 3rd & 1 and not have CBs 10 yards off. College QBs are too shitty to deal wih pressure consistently, especially up the middle. It'll be even better when we have ACC athletes on D.

A win is a win

Edit: BTW Daniels is slow as fuck

Back from the game (actual saw the team come on the field through to the final snap).

The good:
KPL is a perfect SLB for this D.
Half time adjustments. They were stacking the box and overplaying the run like no team I have ever seen. We opened it up and spread it out in the 2nd half.
H Williams made an outstanding down field block on the TD that was called back.
Amidon - he is our only legit WR.
Buttercup

The bad:
Our DBs - besides Asprilla, they are God awful. Rosintano is ridiculously slow.
Ramsey didn't look too good and I did not see much of him in the 2nd half.
Sweet Carolina
the :ugeek: maybe they have not all moved in but in was a weak showing.
Ian White - he cannot pass block at RT.
WRs (other than Amidon) - if they can't get open against Nova...

Just driving back from game so apologies if this had been said somewhere else. Williams' injury was not serious correct ? Was that Kaleb Ramsey that I saw on the sideline with an injury as well ?? Any info on that ?

All in all there were some positives to take away. The defense adjusted nicely and shut down nova after the 1q. Will be interesting to see what happens with Daniels going forward, they said he had a good camp bug he was out of position a lot today.

As for the offense, I think there were good and bad aspects. Thought chase looked much better than expected on the move. The line seemed iffy, but when Rettig can plant and throw he's very good (nothing new as we saw this the last few years when he wasn't getting decapitated).

The play calling was frustrating at times but thought they used the run in setting up the throw well. Wish they would have used Willis at RB unless the plan is to redshirt.

All in all its a win. Score could have easily been more lopsided if Amidon doesn't fumble driving and that penalty doesn't happen.

Better than CJ anyway. It is the Rositano/Sylvia combo that is really the problem. Dom Williams subbed for Slyvia a few times but I never saw Simmons on D which surprised me.

Agreed. If one or both of Rositano/Sylvia is the slightest bit out of position or take a bad angle they have no prayer of recovering due to the speed issue. I'm getting eepsteinesque here but whenever I see 47, 49 and 19 on my screen together, much yards have just been gained and many people have fallen over.

Not a great college qb either, even if it's not his fault.

That's a hard argument to make when he throws 3k yard s to Alex friggin amidon

IMO Freese sucked at punter today. Average of 38.3 over 7 punts with a long of 43

I'd like to see a few more games. I don't know if he was avoiding Abdur Rahman and if that had an effect on the distance and none of them seemed to cost us.

Also Quigley, who I think we'd all agree was good, averaged 38/ his senior year.

Silva isn't horrible, I like him at SS because he's a hard hitter. Rositano is the worst safety I've seen at the D1 level. He's horrible and should not play

Asprilla was the man today

One other thing that surprised me was that Keyes was the only non starting LB to play today.
Kavalec didn't play any DE either. Edabelli and the 3 LBs played a lot of football today.
