Their rotation is crap beyond him, he'll have all of the leverage as no one available is near his level.

This. Still not a huge fan of CC in a short series against a good lineup, but he's proven me wrong on that. The Yanks don't sniff the playoffs without him.

I know money is simply no object to the Yanks but it'll add to their impressive list of brutal contracts as CC is 31 and doesn't exactly have a body that is built to last.
2012: Jeter (38, $16 MM), ARod (36, $29 MM), Tex (32, $22.5 MM), Burnett (35, $16.5 MM)
2013: Jeter (39, $17 MM), ARod (37, $28 MM), Tex (33, $22.5 MM), Burnett (36, $16.5 MM)
2014: Jeter (40, $8 MM player option, could be up to $17), ARod (38, $25 MM), Tex (34, $22.5 MM)
2015: ARod (39, $21 MM), Tex (35, $22.5 MM)
2016: ARod (40, $20 MM), Tex (36, $22.5 MM)
2017: ARod (41, $20 MM)
As a side note Teixeira has been struggling with the bat this year hitting .245, granted his homeruns will be good since he plays in a little league park for 81 games.
EagleNYC {l Wrote}:I disagree on Tex though. He plays a very low impact position (exceptionally well) that traditionally has the longest period of longevity. He's got a swing made for that ballpark too, so he's probably worth more to then Yankees than any other team. As for CC, I think you're fixated on his weight and ignoring the fact that he relies on his lower half much more than his arm and pitchers tend to age from the shoulders down (and he recovered rather easily from his minor off season knee surgery). Is it a risk? Sure. But he's showing no signs of deterioration at this point.

Ok, I'll bite. As a threshold matter, the Yankees operate a business and a ballclub, which is how you justify Jeter(tm)'s contract. It is without question a bad baseball contract. There is no defense for ARod and Burnett- just awful. I disagree on Tex though. He plays a very low impact position (exceptionally well) that traditionally has the longest period of longevity.
