Not only have I not noticed any panic, I hadn't even really realized the season had started. That said, I am sure the pink hats are all upset.

You didn't get the memo that they closed the Zakim ;)

I try not to look in the direction of that eyesore.

I went to the Cubs game on Sunday and I have to say I was very disappointed by Wrigley. I really don't get the appeal, and I tend to like the old ballparks. Wrigley is just a shithole inhabited by a bad team and mediocre fans. At least my Pirates won, and the hot dogs were good.

You went in April. Go sometime in June/July when it's not 50/50 weather. A lot more fun to throw down a few brews in the bleachers when it's hot out.

I concur about the shitty team and mediocre fans. Though not sure how much you can talk as you're a Pirates fan. At least you have PNC. So that's something.

What brought you to become a Pirates fan?

Neither have the Sox, apparently. That being said, they opened on the road. Win 2/3 against the Yankees and its practically a wash, then two more series at Fenway. Talk to me at 0-15.

Yeah, I forgot today was even a day game. I didn't even know they had lost until the Yankee fan pointed it out. It's hard for me to get excited about baseball when it is still below 50 ferchrissakes.

Speaking of weather, I refuse to acknowledge that it's not spring yet. Hell...I wore sunglasses today.

I would gladly take an 80 win season if it would get the pink hats off of the bandwagon. The Red Sox are the AL's Mets.

I am originally from near pittsburgh.

An yeah, pirates fans suck too. It's just that wrigley and cubs fans seem to have an undeserved positive reputation. I will have to go back midseason some tume

PNC is very nice.

I'd comment on this if I understood it. The Red Sox have simply added bandwagon fans to the best fan base in baseball. In other words, we got stuck with a bunch of Yankee fans.

Are you saying the Mets have bandwagon fans?

This would make any :whalepants proud. Every winning team has annoying bandwagon fans. Would you not want BC to win a national title if it meant more non-alums started showing up at Alumni?

I was actually making 2 separate points:

1) I hate "Red Sox Nation" and everything about it. Red Sox fans are incredibly annoying and have become a cariacature of themselves.

2) The 2011 Red Sox roster is overpriced mediocrity. That's where the Mets comment comes in. Beckett, Dice, Lackey will again combine to make about $40 million / year of mediocre starts. Carl Crawford isn't close to being a $20 mil / year player even though I actually like him.

PNC is an incredible ballpark. So many unique features within the ballpark combined with an incredible backdrop in CF. Too bad the city of pittsburgh was uhhh...dead on the Sunday afternoon of the season finale.

1) Agreed, growing up in the tri-state area as a Mets fan -I hated the Yankees. Moving up here I root for them over the Sox.

b) Understood.

So you would rather have your team suck than deal with annoying fans. :whalepants

John Lackey vs. Bartolo Colon. This would be a lot more exciting if it were a pie eating contest.

Agreed. And, the Penn Brewery as well as the South Side bars are good places to drink away a weekend. Hence, I would like to go see the Sox play there when teams meet in late June.

On my quasi ballpark / quasi brewery tour in the fall, I enjoyed PNC the most. Unfortunately I was only in pittsburgh for a few hours before I had to fly to my next stop. Maybe I will go check it out again in June with the sox in town.

From what I saw on my brief trip:
PNC - Small, Intimate setting with the unmistakable yellow bridge in the background. You can enter the stadium through a pizza parlor and then head to CF and walk along the river behind the bleachers. Perfectly blended all of the aspects of the city.
Petco - Ballpark feels cavernous and empty with about 10k seats too many for a smaller city without hardcore fans (and the beach a few miles away). Many elements that work quite well together (CF beach, Park within the Park, Warehouse) and surprisingly nice skyline. Gaslamp Quarter is pretty overrated though.
PacBell - Obviously priceless backdrop, but it felt very cramped in the concourses.
Coors - Really nice stadium with an incredible facade in a great pre/post game neighborhood. In the Wells Fargo Club Seats you can start a tab at the bar (+5), but a serious lack of available microbreweries in an area filled with them (-10)
Safeco - They have some million dollar views in that area (Ranier, the Sound, etc)...and you can't see anyone of them because of the damn retractable roof

________ Coliseum in Oakland - No Comment
