Wake Forest Baseball Coach Donates Kidney: Tom Walters Gift to Outfielder Kevin Jordan
February 09, 2011 05:40 AM EST
Wake Forest College baseball coach, Tom Walters, donated a kidney to freshman outfielder, Kevin Jordan. The young baseball player was in need of the operation because he suffered from ANCA vasculitis which would eventually lead to kidney failure. Unfortunately, no one in Kevin’s family could donate their kidney because none of them were a match.
It’s obvious that the Wake Forest baseball coach not only has a love for the game but also for his players because when he heard the devastating news, he went and tested himself and was found to be a suitable match. The two men are now recovering and it goes without saying that Kevin Jordan is probably more thankful to his coach donating him a kidney than he was during last year’s draft picks when he was the New York Yankees’ 19th-round draft pick. See a photo of both guys in the hospital.
Jordan was diagnosed with ANCA vasculitis when doctors discovered his kidneys were only working between 15 – 20%. The discovery came after Kevin was admitted to Emory University Hospital for not being able to get over the flu in an adequate time. Hopefully both Tom Walters and Kevin Jordan will make a full recovery as their doctor is predicting. With any luck, Jordan will be able to move on and be better than ever! Chances are the first baseball game back for the Wake Forest coach and his freshman outfielder will be a packed one!
