Dirtywater {l Wrote}:Tony has been moved up to the Altoona Curve, Altoona, PA in AA. He has been steadily moving up from the rookie league to last year at A+ in Bradenton, Fla. Its a good bet he will eventually move on to AAA and the bigs (Pirates).
2009 first-round and 4th overall pick Tony Sanchez was promoted to AAA this evening.
Sanchez has been a disappointment since being drafted, especially during his time in Double-A. He really had a rough year last season and hasn’t blown anyone away this year either. He has been much better of late, however. This year with the Altoona Curve, Sanchez has hit .277/.373/.387 with no homers and 13 doubles in 39 games.
The on-base percentage is good, and the power is not. Still, I guess the Pirates decided it was time to move on and see what he can do in Triple-A (which has a crowded catching situation, but Sanchez should see the majority of at-bats). His performance there for the rest of the year may impact whether or not the Pirates exercise Rod Barajas‘ $3.5 million 2013 option.
